Utah

Just over 60% of voters in Utah chose to repeal Prohibition on November 7, 1933. That decision was later ratified on December 5th.

  • Utah had the honor of being the last state to repeal Prohibition of the 36 needed for the Amendment to pass. The fact that it is in a more western time zone gave it the edge over the other two states that held their conventions that day, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

  • An interesting story from The Los Angeles Times told of how a “respected citizen” was caught with liquor and after making bail, killed himself so as to avoid returning to prison.
